About The Society...

The Dorrill Society was founded by James S. Dorrill in July 1989 as The Dorrill-Dorrell-Darrell File, "An International Surname Forum", and was "...an association and publication (a periodical newsletter of the same name) dedicated to the surnames of Dorrill-Dorrell-Darrell and other variant spellings."

In 1991, the name of the association was changed to The Dorrill-Dorrell-Darrell Society, and continued to publish the newsletter through 1994. By this time, the Society had members in many of the American States and in countries overseas.

After 1994, the Society lay dormant.

In April 2003, the Society was reactivated with a redirected and specific focus, and renamed The Dorrill Society. The direction of the Society is now "Dedicated to the family history and genealogy of Robert Dorrill (b.1712/1717) of Christ Church Parish in Colonial Carolina, his ancestors and descendants, and including the related allied and collateral lines of those families."
